Getting started

From installation to your first safe handoff and restore.

Complete these steps with a small set of conversations before applying maintenance actions broadly.

CMT Codex Toolbox

1. Install and connect

Download the Windows package, verify its integrity, then select the local Codex data folder.

  • Keep the default folder if CMT detects it correctly
  • Run the initial health check
  • Allow the first index to complete before filtering

2. Organize and hand off

Review statuses, choose a project, and generate a continuation summary.

  • Confirm the working directory and recent activity
  • Edit the summary before sharing it
  • Keep private paths out of public handoffs

3. Practice recovery

Use a non-critical record to learn backup, safe deletion, and restore behavior.

  • Confirm the backup exists and passes integrity validation
  • Restore to the original location
  • Test rename handling with an intentional name conflict

4. Learn the navigation

Use the dedicated areas for conversations, backups, health, history, migration, and settings.

  • Return to the dashboard for overall status
  • Keep filters within the conversation workspace
  • Use backup actions only from the restore and storage areas

5. Configure backup retention

Choose how long recoverable data is kept and when automatic cleanup may run.

  • Start with a conservative retention period
  • Enable low-space warnings
  • Review expiring items before the first scheduled cleanup

6. Create support evidence

Run health checks before exporting a diagnostic package.

  • Preview every included file and field
  • Mask account names, private paths, serials, and order data
  • Record the steps and time needed to reproduce the issue

7. Rehearse migration

Export a small selection and import it into a controlled destination before moving a full workspace.

  • Compare the export manifest with the selection
  • Verify checksums before import
  • Confirm settings and restored locations after import
